About Me

Who am I?

You probably already know my name but for those who don't, it is Andrew Duffy. I'm a 31 year old IT Analyst living and working in Newcastle upon Tyne in England. I recently graduated from a local university (with a very pleasing 2:1) and am just finding my feet in the IT sector.

Newcastle is just one of many towns I've lived in through the UK, and while it isn't "home" it is home for now. With the way the IT market is, especially in this region, it is likely another move is on the cards.

I was brought up in Scotland, though I've mostly considered myself British as only one of my parents is Scottish - the other English. Having now lived in England as long as I lived in Scotland, it is fair to say I couldn't see myself as anything but British.

What I like?

Music - I have very eclectic tastes, ranging from some classical right through to punk. At the moment though, I'm revisiting the 80's and 90's and gaining an appreciation of music I never even considered during my formative years.

Sports - the only sport I really love is Football. It has brought me great pleasure over the years as well as more than a few disappointments. I've never really been a fan of any other sport, though I have gained a small appreciation of Ice Hockey and Canadian Football in the last few years through careful tutelage of some close friends in Canada =)

The Net - A real eye opener for me, and it has opened whole new worlds. When I first got online (early 1997) I never would have believed the real world opportunities that could be presented. I have two Godchildren, Zachary and Logan, who mean the world to me. I have made great friends (including their parents) and seen that the world may be large but it doesn't have to be.

TV - I love a few shows, like Survivor, Angel, Smallville and the like. I have a pretty eclectic taste there too.

Books - I'm a compulsive book buyer, but not quite so compulsive in reading (I find these things come in peaks and troughs). I realised I had a book problem when I cleared out 150 or so to charity and found I still have about the same number left to read! I'm on an embargo now until I get the pile down to manageable size!
